Why are collectible card games gaining popularity?
Do you remember how many hours you spent playing Heroes of Might and Magic? If you missed the heyday of ’90s fantasy gaming, you may have played Gwent or shuffled decks in the Game of Thrones card game.
And even if you’re not a big fan of card games, you’ve definitely heard of Hearthstone.
Regardless, collectible card games (CCGs) have their own large and dedicated community. The CCG genre is over 100 years old and began with collectible baseball cards in the early 20th century.
The genre underwent a revolution in 1997 when the first ChronX and Sanctum CCGs were released online.
Since then, the DCCG (Digital Collectible Card Game) genre has been growing year after year without losing popularity. Today, according to the report, the market for collectibles
card games is worth nearly $13 billion and will grow at an annual rate of 16.5% over the next several years. According to analysts, the market will reach a volume of $36 billion by 2028.
Interest in DCCG is increasing due to the rapid development of the play-to-earn (P2E) gaming industry. The market capitalization of P2E games is now over $20 billion.
Alexis Ohanian, co-founder of Reddit, believes that in 5 years, 90% of the video game market will be in the hands of P2E games.
It should be noted that much of the P2E market is occupied by CBG (Card Blockchain Games). For example, Axie Infinity occupies
more than 20% of the market. Combining these two driving forces, blockchain technology and 90s fantasy nostalgia, a team of three devoted fantasy fans releases the BoarWar trading card game built on the Ethereum blockchain.
From the Middle Ages to the 90’s: What do we know about BoarWar?
BoarWar is a collectible card game made in the best traditions of the fantasy genre, where players can fight each other, invade other players’ lands, and create their own dynasties.
With its colorful design and clever battle system, BoarWar is as addictive as the best strategy games of the 90’s.
The gameplay is based on the exploration of Aurora Boarealis, the fictional universe in which BoarWar takes place, as well as quests and PvP battles.
The combat base of the game is 8,000 original playable characters, all unique boar warriors to be released as NFTs and written to the Ethereum blockchain in April 2022.
The BoarWar NFT collection brings together 150 items from 14 categories, such as weaponry, helmets, armor, fangs, etc. to create battle units for the actual game.
In June 2022, the team will release additional cards known as the Boarette NFT. Boarette NFT is a collection of female boars that will allow the user to create new descendants – playable NFT characters that can also be used in a battle.
All boars are the same, but some boars are more equal than others, that’s why the game includes 4 different character classes: elite, high, medium and low class.
Players who own the elite class characters will get a piece of land in the form of NFTs, where they can build a property that will generate some income on a regular basis. Players can also make a profit by completing quests and winning battles against each other.
The cost of a Boar NFT will start at 0.04 ETH, which is cheaper than the average price of new collections created on Ethereum. Pre-sale tokens can be purchased for 0.03 ETH at a 25% discount.
Tokenomics of the Middle Ages
BoarWar’s economic system will resemble the real economy of the Middle Ages. To ensure the functioning of the BoarWar metaverse, two native tokens will be released: ACORN and TRUFFLE.
The first will be used for game activities – this is the currency that the user earns in the game. It can be instantly converted to Ethereum or Bitcoin when needed. At the same time, the government token TRUFFLE will be distributed among players and investors.
TRUFFLE is meant to help the team reach their ultimate goal: to make the game completely decentralized in terms of governance and development.
At the beginning of 2023, the first round of closed token sale will take place with a starting price of $0.10. In 2023 and 2024 there will be 4 additional rounds of closed sales for partners, investors and the most active members of the community.
12% of the total supply of the TRUFFLE token will be sold in the public sale and the launch date has not yet been announced.
No boar was harmed
The project team is concerned about the issue of sustainable development and is going to help those who cannot protect themselves.
For this reason, 5% of the profits from the sales of the NFT collection go to funds whose main mission is to protect wildlife.
The team has selected two funds to which donations will be made: WWF and SAVEME. Let’s hunt only NFT boars and respect wildlife is the statement with which the creators of BoarWar launch their project.
The game is already in development and the public token sale is scheduled for April. However, there are already more than 5,000 members on the project’s Discord server and almost 10,000 followers on Twitter. This is just the beginning of BoarWar’s long journey, with ambitious goals already set until 2028, the BoarWar team is clearly aiming to become the new industry standard for P2E gaming.
