Kraken CEO Jesse Powell lashed out on Twitter at some employees for going against the company’s crypto culture, saying around 20 people in its 3,200-strong workforce were unfit for the organization.

Powell revealed that the actions of these employees have affected the productivity of others, calling them a “poor fit.”

According to him, the problem with these workers is that their focus has changed from the company culture to fighting first world problems.

In his words,

“When things started to look bleak, sensitivities and misalignment arose. People focused on minor slights, first world problems instead of our really big and important mission of helping billions of people.”

Powell went on to say that this turn of events has forced him to re-emphasize the company’s “crypto-first culture.” He went on to say that employees have been asked to commit to the company or receive their salary and leave.

Powell noted the possibility of a story on the company being published soon, as someone could have broken their non-disclosure agreement by sharing internal conversations with reporters.

Kraken’s CEO concluded that the company has developed some “policies that might not appease activists, but work for the other 99% of the world,” while showing that the company is currently hiring for more than 500 positions.

Crypto businesses are shrinking

Cryptocurrency exchanges like Coinbase, Gemini, Crypto.com and many others have been forced to downsize due to the current macroeconomic situation that has seen the cryptocurrency market plummet to new lows.

Coinbase revealed that it was laying off more than 1,000 workers due to the macroeconomic outlook and the start of a recession that could last a long time.

Others like Gemini, Robinhood, BlockFi and Crypto.com have also revealed their intentions to reduce their workforce.

However, the only exceptions appear to be Kraken and Binance, whose CEO Changpeng Zhao revealed that the company is hiring for more than 2,000 positions because the company has a “very healthy war chest.”
